Hardback. Dark red / maroon blind embossed boards. 4th impression of this edition with the Hugh Thomson illustrations. There are a couple of minor marks to the boards and the spine is slightly fade. Light bruising to the spine ends. The binding is firm, though there is a light crack to the front inner hinge. A gift inscription written neatly at the top of the front endpaper (dated 1901). Deckled / untrimmed page edges. pp. xviii, 437, 6. Frontispiece illustration has tissue guard. Some foxing to the title page and frontis. A nice copy. 107120

The paper sides are bright as they have been protected by the dust jacket. Pages are clean and the binding firm. No previous owner's names, inscriptions or other marks inside. Boards are just very lightly rubbed at the spine ends, edges and to a couple of corners. The dust jacket is lightly rubbed at the edges, with some tiny chips to the spine ends and corners. Austen, Jane Hamish Hamilton [1947-1949] London 1947 Hardcover Good No Jacket Book 
All five volumes are in good condition. All lack dust jackets and are rubbed at the spine ends and corners, with lighter rubs to edges. Bound in quarter black cloth, with printed paper sides. The sides are a patterned paper by Curwen Press, designed by Sarah Nechamkin. They would have had dust jackets when published and may have been sold as a boxed set (there was a boxed set of the 6 Jane Austen titles produced but these are without a box). Emma is the missing volume from this set. Sense and Sensibility is a 1st Novel Library edition, of 1948, pp. viii, 374; Pride and Prejudice is a 1st Novel Library edition of 1949, pp. viii, 386, has a small pale stain to the outer closed textblock foredge; Northanger Abbey is a first Novel Library edition of 1948, pp. viii, 236; Persuasion is a reprint of 1951, first published in the Novel Library edition 1947, pp. vi, 254; Mansfield Park is a 1st Novel Library edition of 1949, pp. viii, 479, has a very small brown stain near the top edge of the front cover. No previous owner's names or inscriptions. The bindings are all firm and of a uniform size, 17.6cm. There are a few slightly shaken spots in the binding / textblock but overall the binding is still firm. Inner hinges very good. No previous owner's names or inscriptions.
