The boards are faded and marked at the spine, a few marks to the boards, corners bumped, cloth rubbed at the spine ends and corners. Deckled / untrimmed edges. Light foxing to outer closed textblock page edges, some foxing to prelims and foxing to pages. From the personal library of SMITH ELY JELLIFFE and signed by him on the front pastedown and on the title page. Smith Ely Jelliffe (1866-1945) was an eminent American physician, psychiatrist and early psychoanalyst. From 1902 he owned and edited the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease and in 1913 he was founder of Psychoanalytic Review. He was regular correspondent of Freud and Jung and was one of the earliest proponents of Freudian theory in the United States. pp. xiii, 201, plates. First American edition.
