Original Parker & Co. brown cloth binding, with gilt titles. Some marks to the boards and the spine is noticeably darkened / dulled. The cloth is rubbed and frayed at the spine ends, with nicks in the cloth at both ends of the spine. Spine ends bumped. Copy of Sir Henry Bargrave Deane, an old Wykehamist, (1848-1919) and bears his bookplate on the front pastedown. Inner hinges lightly cracked and the first section of pages feels a little loose. Binding is otherwise quite firm. Frontispiece illustration with tissue guard. A stain to the top outer closed textblock page edge (edges only; the pages themselves remain clean) and two small pale stains to the edges of the rear endpaper. Top edges slightly rough-trimmed; not untrimmed but not smooth cut either. pp. xi, 496, 16, plates.
