From the personal library of SMITH ELY JELLIFFE and signed by him on the front pastedown and on the title page. Smith Ely Jelliffe (1866-1945) was an eminent American physician, psychiatrist and early psychoanalyst. From 1902 he owned and edited the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease and in 1913 he was founder of Psychoanalytic Review. He was a regular correspondent of Freud and Jung and was one of the earliest proponents of Freudian theory in the United States. Original blue boards, with some light marks to the boards and some rubs to the edges. The book is in fair to good condition. There is a significant backwards lean to the spine, bumps to the corners and there are some red pen marks to the bottom outer closed textblock edge (just the textblock edge; not the pages themselves). Some quite heavy foxing to prelims; lighter foxing throughout. Publisher's review copy slip is included and there are some rusted marks from an old paperclip to the top edge of the frontispiece, title and contents pages. Paperclip removed. A significant bump and some creasing to the foredge of some pages in the middle of the textblock. pp. xv, 347 + plates. A solid copy, good for reference or study, or for its' provenance. A HEAVY book - a postage surcharge will apply to delivery destinations outside the UK as this book costs more to send than our standard postage rate will cover. NO additional charges for sending within the UK.
