1824-1827. The First Series was published in 1824 and the Second Series in 1827. These two series have here been uniformly bound together as a 7 volume set. There was a later Third Series published in 1846. Both sets are first editions. The books have been uniformly re-backed - attractively done in tan leather which is sympathetic to the original bindings, imitation bands to spines, black leather title pieces with gilt titles, gilt tooling to panel edges. All edges and endpapers marbled. All volumes contain their original silk ribbon page markers, some now detached. Corners rubbed, with boards exposed at corner tips. This is an important complication of early English documents including letters by Cromwell, Wolsey, Richard III, Thomas More, Henry VI, Tudor monarchs, Charles I and many more. pp. First Series: xviii, 310, [frontis.]; xiv, 308 [frontis. extending facsimile]; xviii, 399. Second Series: xvi (there is a Contents page missing xvii-xviii), 349, [frontis. extending facsimile]; xii, 336, [frontis. extending drawing of Calais defences]; xii, 383, [frontis. portrait of Eliz. I + tissue guard]; xxiii, 544, [frontis.]. Some quite heavy foxing to frontispiece illustrations and facsimiles, plus a few other pages. A well-bound, sturdy and handsome set. Please note that these volumes are heavy and that postage outside of the UK will incur a substantial surcharge as they will cost more to send than our standard postage rate will cover. No additional charges for delivery within the UK.
