Original red boards. Faded triangular patch to the boards at the head of the spine. Written school prize presentation note on the front endpaper, dated 1946. Binding is tight and firm and the pages nice and clean. Printed on thick, good quality paper. There are a very few small foxing spots to the outer closed textblock edges. Colour frontis. illustration. 224pp. The dust jacket is worn and torn to all edges, with a large section missing from the back cover. Front endpaper loose and rear endpaper missing. Heavy foxing to prelims; otherwise light scattered foxing to pages. Contemporary previous owner's signature, place and date [1862] on front free flyleaf. There are some slightly grubby handling marks to page margins (not extensive).
