POOR CONDITION. Original Rupert bear annual for 1937. Pictorial boards with red cloth spine. The cloth of the spine is discoloured and has several tears and the rear hinge looks re-glued by a previous owner. Extensive rubbing to the boards. Front inner hinge has been crudely strengthened by a previous owner with stiff card (not an attractive repair but a functional one). Rear inner hinge is cracked and there are further weak points to the binding. Page 13/14 is a photocopy replacement (original leaf missing). Some short tears, creasing and light marks to pages but pages are relatively clean. No writing or colouring in to pages. Page 111/112 is ragged at the edges. The dust jacket is rubbed and worn, with tears to the joins with the flaps and quite a large pale brown stain which is mostly visible to the underside but which you can just see around the spine area of the front of the cover. Pictorial-paper-covered boards. Flexible boards. Date of publication not stated, but is 1916. Stapled binding - 2 staples in the spine. The staples have rusted, with corresponding rust marks around the outsides of the staples and the centre pages are slightly loosening. Some foxing and occasional thumbing marks to the pages. Some pages and illustrations have a c. half centimeter pale water-type mark to the bottom edge. The colour illustrations are otherwise in nice clean condition. A gift inscription inside the front cover reads, 'Joyce, with best love from Daddy, Xmas 1917'. No other writing inside. The boards are generally rubbed and creased. Overall, a fairly good example of this charming and scarce Ernest Aris title. 302793
