1904. Publisher's original red cloth, gilt decoration. Light rubs to the board edges and a slightly dulled spine. A small pocket-sized volume. A chronology of 6 pages, followed by 20 tissue-guarded photogravure plates. 14.5cm. There is a very pale stain to the bottom margin of most of the plates. Plates free from foxing though there is foxing present to prelims. A good copy of one of the more scarce titles in this little series. 304670

Hardback, lacks dust jacket. FAIR condition only - boards are very worn. However, contents are in good, clean condition and this makes a quite acceptable study / reference copy. Original red boards. There are splits to the cloth at the joints at the head and tail of the spine; a previous owner has repaired these with a strong, clear plastic tape, so the binding is quite sturdy but not attractive to look at. The cloth is also rubbed and frayed at the spine ends and corners. An EX-LIBRARY copy, with sticker to the front board and minimal library reference marks inside. Light foxing to outer closed textblock page edges. pp. xx, 325, plates. Half leather, red morocco, patterned red and black cloth boards. The spine and corners have been renewed in matching red morocco, with original binding overlaid. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Inner hinges neatly repaired with marbled paper (a close match to the original). Ex- Cheltenham Public Library copy - gilt number stamped at the base of the spine, remnants of some pasted labels on the front pastedown and endpaper (minor residue). There are small round purple library stamps to several pages. A nineteenth-century bookplate on the front pastedown. Very heavy foxing to the frontispiece portrait. Sporadic foxing throughout. Ink and pencil library shelf numbers written on the reverse of the title page. Some rubs, with chips to the cloth, to the board edges. Small piece torn away from the top corner of p. 137 (margin only). Note written in pencil in the bottom margin of p.4. Printed by A. & R.
