Quarter cloth - brown cloth spines with black paper sides. Boards are significantly rubbed at the edges and corners in particular, though surfaces also rubbed. Spine ends are bumped with some fraying to the cloth at the spine ends. Inscriptions on the front endpapers. Binding is sound and hinges are good. There are quite a lot of passages marked throughout the text with a green chalk pencil - this is three vertical lines of green pencil running through all the marked passages; there are a lot of them. Foxing to page edges and to the first and last few pages. Occasional minor grubby handling mark.
