The textblock is slightly bumped at the bottom corner and there is a pale stain to the bottom corner of the outer closed textblock page edges (this is pale and does not affect pages themselves). From the author's own collection - the archaeologist Christopher Hawkes (1905-1992) - and bears his abbreviated signature (initials) and date, April 1940, on the front endpaper. pp. xv, 414, plates and maps. Very light rubs to spine and corners. Spine is in good condition. Inside, the pages are clean and free from creases but there are few stamps saying 'Wednesfield High School' - three inside the front covers, one on the rear endpaper and one on the penultimate page. 52pp. 305277
