Hardback, with dust jacket. Pictorial boards with matching dust jacket. In excellent, near fine condition; just one small flattened crease to the rear dust jacket flap. This does not adhere to the book or jacket in any way and it protects the jacket against wear. Charlotte lives in a big house with lots of toys. You'd think that would make her happy, but it doesn't. Harvey, Michael Bloomsbury 2012 1408809249 / 9781408809242 Soft cover Fine Book 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall
Large trade size paperback, 23.5cm. RRP. 11.99. Not previously owned and in excellent, clean, tight and unmarked condition. 298pp. Chicago cop-turned-PI Michael Kelly is racing to save his city from a deadly new foe: a biological weapon unleashed underground. When a light bulb falls in a subway tunnel, it releases a pathogen that could kill millions. While the mayor postures, people begin to die, especially on the city's grim west side. Hospitals become morgues. L trains are converted into rolling hearses. Finally, the government acts, sealing off entire sections of the city - but are they keeping people out or in? Meanwhile, Michael Kelly's hunt for the people who poisoned his city takes him into the tangled underworld of Chicago's west side gangs and the even more frightening world of black biology - an elite discipline emerging from the nation's premier labs, where scientists play God and will stop at nothing to preserve their secrecy. It's a brave new world and the most audacious page-turner yet from an emerging modern master. Featuring plenty of next-generation technology, We All Fall Down is stylish suspense from a major new voice. 301686

24 1913
Illies, Florian ; translated into English by Shaun Whiteside and Jamie Lee Searle The Clerkenwell Press 2013 1846689511 / 9781846689512 Hardcover New New Book 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall
New hardback. 2nd printing. In excellent fine condition. RRP 14.99. The DJ is supplied by us in a loose protective archival clear film sleeve. This does not adhere to the book or jacket in any way and it protects the jacket against wear. 272pp. A witty yet moving narrative worked up from sketched documentary traces and biographical fragments, 1913 is an intimate cultural portrait of a world that is about to change forever. The stuffy conventions of the nineteenth century are receding into the past, and 1913 heralds a new age of unlimited possibility. Kafka falls in love; Louis Armstrong learns to play the trumpet; a young seamstress called Coco Chanel opens her first boutique; Charlie Chaplin signs his first movie contract; and new drugs like cocaine usher in an age of decadence. Yet everywhere there is the premonition of ruin - the number 13 is omnipresent, and in London, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Trieste, artists take the omen and act as if there were no tomorrow, their brief coincidences of existence telling of a darker future. In a Munich hotel lobby, Rilke and Freud discuss beauty and transience; Proust sets out in search of lost time; and while Stravinsky celebrates the Rite of Spring with industrial cacophony, in Munich an Austrian postcard painter by the name of Adolf Hitler sells his conventional cityscapes. Told with Illies's characteristic mixture of poignant evocation and laconic irony, 1913 is the story of the year that shaped the last century. 303618
