2 Enid Blyton's Noddy and his Friends, weekly magazine issues No. 1-36, 38-40 and the Christmas Special (1974) [40 issues in total]
Blyton, Enid [Darrell Waters Ltd.] Hudvale Ltd. London 1974 Soft cover Very Good Book
40 issues of this weekly children's magazine from 1974. Includes issues nos 1-36; 38-40 and the bumper issue Christmas Special (48 pages, rather than the usual 16). Issue no. 1 has a small repaired tear to the front cover (an acid-free, archival tissue repair, near invisible); issue 1 also has a long repaired tear to the back cover, with old yellowed sellotape (previous owner repair). A number of issues have a name written on the cover (front or back). The first 11 magazines have a cut-out activity printed on the back cover, for children to make. The cut-out activity on issue no. 6 is a puzzle - this has been very neatly cut out and the pieces of the puzzle retained (they fit back into the cover perfectly and we have put them in a small acetate bag for safe keeping). Nos 29, 30 and 31 have a few activities filled-in (i.e. dot-to-dot done in pencil etc.). Activity pages in the other magazines are clean. Issue no. 34 has a short tear to the top edge of the back cover, repaired with an acid-free, archival, near transparent mending tissue. They are overall in remarkably good condition for a flimsy child's magazine from 1974. Magazines measure 28.3 x 21.8cm. HEAVY - packaged weight over 1KG, hence a postage surcharge will apply to delivery destinations outside the UK as this set costs more to send than our standard postage rate will cover. NO additional charges for sending within the UK. 308880

24 Gorey's Worlds
Monroe, Erin ; with contributions by Robert Greskovic, Arnold Arluke, and Kevin Shortsleeve Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, in assoc. with Princeton University Press 2018 069117704X / 9780691177045 Hardcover New No Jacket Book 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall
Brand new hardback. An exploration of the artistic and cultural influences that shaped writer and illustrator Edward Gorey (1925-2000). Beloved for his droll, surreal, and slightly sinister drawings. While he is perhaps best known for his fanciful, macabre books, such as The Doubtful Guest and The Gashlycrumb Tinies, his instantly recognizable imagery can be seen everywhere from the New Yorker to the opening title sequence of the television series Mystery! (USA). Gorey's Worlds delves into the numerous and surprising cultural and artistic sources that influenced his unique visual language. Gorey was an inveterate collector. A variety of objects shaped his artistic mindset, from works of popular culture to the more than twenty-six thousand books he owned and the art pieces in his vast collection. This collection, which Gorey left to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art upon his death, is diverse in style, subject, and media, and includes prints by Eug ne Delacroix, Charles Meryon, Edvard Munch, and Odilon Redon; photographs by Eug ne Atget; and drawings by Balthus, Pierre Bonnard, Charles Burchfield, Bill Traylor, and douard Vuillard. As this book shows, these artistic pieces present a visual riddle, as the connections between them, to each other and to Gorey's works, are significant and enigmatic. RRP £27.00. pp. 150. 24.2cm. 309095

15 Memoirs of the Public Life of the Late Right Honourable Charles James Fox
Fell, R. J. F. Hughes London 1808 Hard Cover Good 4to - 10.5" Tall
Half leather binding. Brown leather spine and corners, marbled boards. Binding is significantly rubbed to the extremeties and there is also some rubbing and some marks to the marbled boards. The paper covering has been mostly worn away from the edges of the boards. The spine is rather worn with a few small pieces missing and dulled titles. Internally this is a very nice copy. Intials to the title page and the (very) odd spot of foxing, otherwise clean and unmarked throughout. 603pp. 022576
Price: 125.00 GBP
