4 Disquiet
Leigh, Julia Faber & Faber 2008 0571239994 / 9780571239993 First UK Edition Hard Cover Fine Fine 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
Original blue boards. Both the book and dust jacket are in excellent, fine condition. Clean, tight and unmarked. Dust jacket not price clipped. 121pp. Accompanied by two young children, Olivia has left a violent marriage and returned to her childhood home, an austere chateau surrounded by formal gardens. She considers herself to be already 'murdered', dead before dying. At the same time as this unannounced homecoming another couple are expected at the chateau: her brother Marcus and his wife Sophie are due back from the hospital with their newborn. In this brittle world of emotional control, everyone tries to hold themselves together as a tragic secret pushes them towards breaking point...A darkly mesmerising tale, "Disquiet" is disturbing, atmospheric, subtle and quite brilliant. 045152

5 The Waverley Novels - Illustrated edition, complete 25 volume leather bound set
Scott, Sir Walter Marcus Ward & Co. Chandos Street, London 1878 Half Leather Very Good Book 12mo - over 6 - 7" tall
An attractive uniformly bound full set, in half red calf with marbled sides and matching marbled textblock edges and endpapers. Five raised bands to spines, gilt tooling. Illustrated with engraved plates and vignettes. Light scattered foxing, mostly contained to prelims but some spots to other pages. 18.8 x 13cm. A few volumes have minor chips to the head of the spine and there are light rubs to extremities. Volume 3, Old Mortality, has some brown marks between pages 234-235 where there was an old news cutting used as a bookmark; Volume 5, Rob Roy, has a loose leaf (undamaged, so was probably misbound), pp. 119-122 + plate; one other leaf in Rob Roy is very nearly loose (again, no sewing holes so looks misbound), pp. 199-204. Some volumes are dated 1877, 1879, 1880; most are 1878. All bindings are firm (except the loose leaves already mentioned). All inner hinges are very good. No previous owner's names, inscriptions or bookplates. This set is LARGE AND HEAVY - a significant surcharge will apply to international orders as this set will cost a great deal more to send than our standard rate will cover. Shipping to some destinations may not be available - please enquire before ordering. NO additional charges for sending within the UK mainland. UK highlands, islands and N. Ireland may incur an additional charge. 308849
