Half tan calf binding. Spine gilt in six compartments, with raised bands. Marbled boards. Some rubs to the edges and corners have light bumps.. A scratch to the surface leather of the top corner of the lower board. The spine joints are firm but there are some cracks: superficial surface cracks to the leather at the top and bottom of the lower board joint; a deeper crack to the top of the upper board joint. Inner hinges are very good. Lovely brown marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. A stain to the bottom corner of both boards, next to the spine and corresponding small pale water stain to the first and last couple of pages in the bottom corner next to the spine. It ceased publication in 1980. This volume contains the first printing of part of the novel, Sarracinesa, by Francis Marion Crawford, probably the best known work of this prolific nineteenth-century author. pp. 1-876.
