From the personal library of SMITH ELY JELLIFFE and signed by him on the front endpaper and on the title page. Smith Ely Jelliffe (1866-1945) was an eminent American physician, psychiatrist and early psychoanalyst. From 1902 he owned and edited the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease and in 1913 he was founder of Psychoanalytic Review. He was regular correspondent of Freud and Jung and was one of the earliest proponents of Freudian theory in the United States. Original green cloth. Some pale mottled marks around the spine and very light pale flecks to the boards. Top edge blue. A slight forward lean to the spine. Foredges untrimmed. Binding is good and solid. Light bumps to a couple of corners. Foldout map at the back in excellent condition. The dust jacket is quite heavily rubbed and is faded at the spine. Some short nicks and small chips to the edges. 'One thousand miles to the east of Australia in the South Pacific Ocean, there is a series of small islands forming the New Hebrides archipelago. No asterisk printed on the half-title page. Two titles are listed on the page preceding the frontis; they are Biggles Flies East and Biggles Hits the Trail. Original blue boards, with pyramids and plane line illustration in black to the front board. The boards are generally greyed / a bit dull and are particularly darkened at the spine. No significant marks to the boards. There is a slight forwards lean to the spine. Top edge tinted blue (though now faded and grey). The binding is quite firm; inner hinges are very good. Some light foxing and thumbing / handling marks to pages throughout. More significant foxing to the outer closed textblock page edges and to first and last few pages. Two previous owner's names and addresses written on front endpaper, one of which has been heavily rubbed out, causing abrasions to the paper.
