1 Answers to Mr. Macaulay's Criticism in The Edinburgh Review on Mr. Croker's Edition of Boswell's Life of Johnson. Selected from Blackwood's Magazine. Second Edition.
John Murray Albemarle Street, London 1856 Soft cover Fair Book 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall
A 16-page pamphlet version of an article formerly published in Blackwood's Magazine. Sewn binding at the spine. Macaulay's criticism of Croker's edition of Boswell's Life of Johnson sparked a bitter feud between the two men. From the Prefaratory note inside the front cover: 'The republication, in a cheap form, for railway reading, of Mr. Macaulay's bitter and unjust article on Mr. Croker's edition of Boswell's Life of Johnson, has induced Mr. Murray to issue in a cheap form a series of replies to the assertions and criticism of that article.' Worn and torn; there is a tear, approx one inch, in the foredge of every page and another tear to the top edge of the front cover / title page. 307703
