7 The Archipelago on Fire
Verne, Jules Sampson Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington Fleet Street, London 1886 First UK Edition Hardcover Good No Jacket Book 12mo - over 6 - 7" tall
First UK edition, variant binding (not the decorative blue cloth). This may be a colonial edition. Dark red / maroon cloth, faded and dulled at the spine and the spine edges of the boards. Gilt titles to the spine. Sampson Low, Marston & Co. Limited in gilt at the base of the spine. A lean to the spine. The cloth is rubbed at the spine ends and corners, with a few short nicks in the cloth at the spine ends. Light marks to the boards. 7/6 blind stamped in the rear board (bottom edge). Printed by Gilbert and Rivington, Limited, St. John's Square. The binding is firm; slightly shaken in a couple of places but inner hinges very good. An anomaly with this copy is that facing the title page it says, for List of Books by Jules Verne see page 199, but this copy ends with the end of the novel, at page 198. There is no evidence of pages being excised; it looks as though this copy was bound without the publisher's lists at the back of the book. Endpapers browned, a little foxing to half-title, LACKS FRONTISPIECE, all other plates present, no previous owner's names or inscriptions, 5 pages have a small flattened crease to the bottom corner. Please contact us if you have any queries. 107115
Price: 120.00 GBP
