1 The Armorial Bearings of the Guilds of London
Bromley, John ; with 40 plates in full colour and numerous line drawings by Heather Child Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd 1960 First Edition Leather Bound Very Good No Jacket Book 8vo - over 7 - 9" tall 
Bound in full red morocco leather, with coat of arms for the City of London in gilt on the front board. Spine faded and with a dark mark /stain in the middle of the spine and smaller marks towards the base of the spine. Some slight white-ish marks to the boards, of unknown origin. Top edge gilt. Boards bow ever so slightly and there is a faint musty odour to the book. Previous owner's name and date written at the top of the half-title page. Some foxing to the outer closed textblock page edges. Otherwise in very good clean condition inside. Binding firm. Armorial endpapers. pp. xxii, 282. Red ribbon page marker. Original black boards. Previous owner's name, place and date on the front endpaper. Some stains to the bottom corners of the front pastedown, front endpaper, half-title page and frontispiece, as well as the front flap and front corner of the dust jacket. Pages are otherwise clean and binding sound and firm. The dust jacket has some tears, creases and chips to the edges with marks to the underside from an old tape repair. DJ price clipped. At the back of the book is printed 'one thousand numbered and signed by the author. This is no. 941' but this copy is not signed. 133pp. The dust jacket is supplied by us in a loose protective clear archival film sleeve. This does not adhere to the book or jacket in any way and it protects the jacket against wear. Very tidy. Appears barely used. NEAR FINE. The front endpaper has a slight diagonal crease. Loosely inserted into the book is a typed poem entitled 'A Call to Coats of Arms' with a hand-written note from the author above explaining tha the poem was 'inserted in copies of the book sent to 40 Members of the House of Lords in hope of rousing them for our cause in the Lords debate'. The dust jacket is now protected inside a removable loose film sleeve. 85pp. 044705
