Discreet round purple Chagford Reading Room stamp in the top corner of the title page, and dedication inscription handwritten at the top of the same; both of these trimmed, indicating margins have been trimmed for a later rebind. Thumb mark on p. 115; a couple of other minor marks. Pages mostly clean. Some marks and some light foxing to endpapers and prelims. Recto of the frontispiece illustration is an advert for Judy magazine ("Every Wednesday. Price Twopence."). A couple of further adverts: one for Fry's Cocoa; one for Mrs. S. A. Allen's World's Hair Restorer. Binding is rubbed at the spine edges, outer edges and corners through to the boards. Some marks to the cloth. Gilt titles and imitation bands on the spine.
