Artistic Italy - or Gallery of Italian Masterpieces drawn and etched from original paintings which can be found in various cities throughout Italy, published by Domenico Chiossone. Illustrated with brief historical notes and biographies of the more renowned artists, by David Chiossone. Dedicated to Don Jose Guell y Rente. Half vellum binding with marbled boards. The marbled boards are quite scuffed and the upper board is curved / bowed in appearance. There is a small 1" split at the head of the spine hinge with the front board, and at the foot of the spine a 4" vertical and 2" horizontal tear in the velum binding has been professionally repaired. There are fifty full-page black and white high quality etchings on beautiful quality paper, each plate with a tissue-guard and each plate, or section of plates, has accompanying descriptive pages of text in Italian. There is some light foxing, mainly to the tissue guards, and a few small marks, but in the main the pages are crisp and clean. At the back of the book there appears to be a list of subscribers.
