All five volumes are in good condition. All lack dust jackets and are rubbed at the spine ends and corners, with lighter rubs to edges. Bound in quarter black cloth, with printed paper sides. The sides are a patterned paper by Curwen Press, designed by Sarah Nechamkin. They would have had dust jackets when published and may have been sold as a boxed set (there was a boxed set of the 6 Jane Austen titles produced but these are without a box). Emma is the missing volume from this set. Sense and Sensibility is a 1st Novel Library edition, of 1948, pp. viii, 374; Pride and Prejudice is a 1st Novel Library edition of 1949, pp. viii, 386, has a small pale stain to the outer closed textblock foredge; Northanger Abbey is a first Novel Library edition of 1948, pp. viii, 236; Persuasion is a reprint of 1951, first published in the Novel Library edition 1947, pp. vi, 254; Mansfield Park is a 1st Novel Library edition of 1949, pp. viii, 479, has a very small brown stain near the top edge of the front cover. No previous owner's names or inscriptions. The bindings are all firm and of a uniform size, 17.6cm. Hardback. Dark red / maroon blind embossed boards. First edition with the Hugh Thomson illustrations. The boards have significantly faded at the spine. Bruises to spine ends, a small bump to the bottom corner of the front board. Light rubs to corners. There are a few slightly shaken spots in the binding / textblock but overall the binding is still firm. Inner hinges very good. No previous owner's names or inscriptions. The dust jacket is rubbed at the edges, with chips, nicks, short tears, a small snag in the middle of the spine, and some minor loss at the head of the spine. Austen, Jane (the text based on collation of the early editions by R. W. Chapman, with notes, indexes and illustrations from contemporary sources). Oxford University Press 1967 Hardcover Very Good Very Good Book 
Hardback with dust jackets. A matching uniform set, in green cloth bindings with the pale blue and white / cream dust jackets. Volume I, Sense and Sensibility, has a gift inscription written on the half-title page in ink (dated 1969). No other writing, names or inscriptions in the other volumes. Volumes I-V were first published in the Oxford Illustrated Edition in 1923, the third edition of this set was published in 1933 and these volumes are all reprints from 1967-1969. Volume VI, Minor Works, was first published in the Oxford Illustrated Edition in 1954 and this copy is a later reprint from 1969. Each of the volumes has some light foxing to the outer closed textblock page edges. All are firmly bound, with very good inner hinges, and nice clean pages. Volume III, Mansfield Park, has a small brown mark to the top outer closed textblock edge. Volume V, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, has a small pale stain to the outer closed textblock foredge. The dust jackets are all rubbed and chipped at the head of the spines, with a little loss to the top of the spine of Volume V. Light rubs to other edges and corners. Each of the dust jackets is neatly price clipped to the front flap. Small bookseller's sticker for Henry Sotheran's at the bottom edge of the front pastedowns.
