Ghost Town: Tales of Manhattan Then and Now McGrath, Patrick Bloomsbury 2005 0747574294 / 9780747574293 First UK Edition Hard Cover Fine Fine 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Hardback with dust jacket. In excellent, fine condition. RRP. £9.99. 243pp. Three short stories. 18.5cm. A man is haunted by the memory of his mother standing under a gibbet with a rope round her neck. It is the American War of Independence, and having defied the British forces occupying New York she must pay for her revolutionary activities. But fifty years on her son harbours a festering guilt for his inadvertent part in her downfall. Then, in a nineteenth-century New York of thrusting commercial enterprise, a ruthless merchant's sensitive son is denied the love of his life through his father's prejudice against the immigrants then flooding into the city - and madness and violence ensue. Finally, a Manhattan psychiatrist tries to treat a favoured patient reeling from the destruction of the World Trade Centre. But she fails to detect the damage she herself has sustained, and suffers the consequences of her blindness. 050022

Enid Blyton's Noddy and his Friends, weekly magazine issues No. 1-36, 38-40 and the Christmas Special (1974) [40 issues in total] Blyton, Enid [Darrell Waters Ltd.] Hudvale Ltd. London 1974 Soft cover Very Good Book 40 issues of this weekly children's magazine from 1974. Includes issues nos 1-36; 38-40 and the bumper issue Christmas Special (48 pages, rather than the usual 16). Issue no. 1 has a small repaired tear to the front cover (an acid-free, archival tissue repair, near invisible); issue 1 also has a long repaired tear to the back cover, with old yellowed sellotape (previous owner repair). A number of issues have a name written on the cover (front or back). The first 11 magazines have a cut-out activity printed on the back cover, for children to make. The cut-out activity on issue no. 6 is a puzzle - this has been very neatly cut out and the pieces of the puzzle retained (they fit back into the cover perfectly and we have put them in a small acetate bag for safe keeping). Nos 29, 30 and 31 have a few activities filled-in (i.e. dot-to-dot done in pencil etc.). Activity pages in the other magazines are clean. Issue no. 34 has a short tear to the top edge of the back cover, repaired with an acid-free, archival, near transparent mending tissue. They are overall in remarkably good condition for a flimsy child's magazine from 1974. Magazines measure 28.3 x 21.8cm. HEAVY - packaged weight over 1KG, hence a postage surcharge will apply to delivery destinations outside the UK as this set costs more to send than our standard postage rate will cover. NO additional charges for sending within the UK. 308880
