Comprises Punch volumes 78 and 79 bound together in one volume - the full year of 1880, plus the week of the 3rd January, 1880 which is actually the end of Volume 77; pp. 301-312. Half calf binding. Spines gilt in six compartments, with bands. Marbled boards. Leather good, light rubs but a short crack to the front joint, c. one inch at the top. Some surface rubs to the boards. Inside, front inner hinge is very good; rear inner hinge full-length crack, exposing the cords. Binding holds fairly firm on the cords. The rest of the binding is strong. Previous owner's signature on the second f.f.e.p.. Foxing to prelims. Some light foxing to pages (nothing heavy). A good copy in handsome binding. The boards are very worn and are in POOR to FAIR condition. Contents good. Spine ends and corners are rubbed and frayed with minor loss of cloth. Rubbed patch on the spine with loss to the word 'Tarsus' of the title. The rear board is damaged with biopredation and possible damp exposure - surface of the cloth is very rubbed with pale patches; ; further small stain at the edge and small hole at the spine. Interior of the book is clean, excepting some mottling to the original brown endpapers; no further foxing. Contemporary previous owner's signature at the top edge of the title page. Written, or transcribed, around the year 1600, this play shares some intriguing similarities with Shakespeare's Timon of Athens, including a scene resembling the banquet given by Timon to his flatterers. With my dear love, Emmuska Orczy, August 1913'. Original red cloth, with pictorial onlay to the front board and gilt lettering. Lettering dulled. There is a forwards lean to the spine and the spine is faded, with some small marks. The cloth is fraying at the spine ends and corners a little rubbed. The binding is firm and hinges good. Some foxing to the endpapers, pastedowns and prelims. A few pages have been badly cut / miscut and have roughly torn foredges.
