A little religious treatise in contemporary leather binding. The front board is detached. General rubs and wear to the boards. Complete in itself though appears to be part of a larger work. Title page, half-title page. Pagination begins on the half-title at p.255, concluding with a 'Finis' at p. 369. There follows two pages of publisher's other titles. 15.5 x 9.5cm. The first 50 pages are quite browned; the latter 70 pages are brighter, perhaps a different paper quality. Tiny burn hole in p. 255/6. Other minor marks commensurate with age but nothing significant. A couple of pages have short tears; again nothing major. Contemporary previous owner's name on the rear endpaper. This is either the fifth or the sixth edition. A previous bookseller (or owner) has lightly scratched or bleached out the printing of the edition on the verso to the title page. It has been neatly done and you have to hold the page up to the light to see it but it is just about visible. The binding is quite tight and the pages are clean. There is a partial crack to the front inner hinge (superficial). There is a gift inscription on the front endpaper, dated 1948 and there is a previous owner's bookplate on the front pastedown.The 6th edition was the last to be published under C.3.3. rather than Oscar Wilde's real name. Quarter cream cloth with dark mustard-yellow cloth sides. Corners bumped and slightly rubbed. A surface scratch to the rear board. Spine dull and darkened but gilt titles still readable. Some marks to the boards. Deckled / untrimmed page edges. All pageS printed to just one side. 31 pages. 102563
