Johns, Captain W. E. Hodder and Stoughton 1944 Hardcover Very Good Good Book Stead
1st edition. Blue cloth covers. There are a few spots of foxing to the covers and some light wear around the edges. The pages are lightly tanned with age, but are free from names or inscriptions. Colour frontis by Stead and 12 further black and white illustrations. The original dustjacket is overall quite grubby and is worn around the edges with small nicks and tears. There is a larger piece missing from along the top edge of the front cover, about half the size of a two-pence piece. The dustjacket is now protected from further wear inside a removal archival film sleeve. Not priceclipped. A nice first edition of a rare Biggles title. 200197

Tan / orange cloth covers with brown titles and illustration. Not a first edition, but an early impression [1st published 1940, I believe this to be a copy of the 1943 impression]. Two asterisks on the half-title page, 'printed in 1940 in Great Britain at the University Press, Oxford, by John Johnson' printed on the reverse of the title page. On p9 (Johns' 'Word to the Reader') there is a capital A and an asterisk printed on the left-hand side at the bottom of the page and two asterisks printed on the right-hand side at the bottom of the page. Around 1" thick. The boards are quite worn in appearance and have some grubby marks. The spine leans forward. Name written on the front endpaper; the pages are generally age-tanned and have some marks & scattered foxing. Colour frontis illustration and six further black and white illustrations. The illustration on p105 has been coloured in (with water paint?) and has a small 0.5" tear at the bottom of the page. 255pp. A FAIR copy. 051931

'The first post-war Biggles story.' First edition, first impression. Blue cloth covers with black lettering, slightly worn around the edges. There is a gift inscription written on the front endpaper and the pages are lightly tanned. The dustjacket is chipped and worn at the edges and has pieces missing from the top and bottom of the spine, the largest loss is approx. 1" square at the foot of the spine. The dustwrapper is not price clipped, and now protected inside a removable clear film sleeve. 188pp. 051932
