Quarter blue calf leather; blue boards. Lacks half-title page. Frontis. portrait and tissue guard. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Spine edges and corner edges are rubbed and the the leather of the spine is also faded and rubbed. The binding however is sound and supple. No previous owner's names or inscriptions. pp. xxvii, 460. 301945

Arnold, Matthew (with an introduction by Sir A. T. Quiller-Couch) ; Wordsworth, William (with introductions and notes edited by Thomas Hutchinson) Humphrey Milford Oxford University Press [1913 and 1916] 1913 Half Leather Very Good Book 
These separate volumes are uniformly bound in a handsome red morocco with red cloth boards, six gilt ruled spine compartments, five raised bands. Top edges are gilt. Minor rubs. An attractive and sturdy pair. The pair belonged to Hermione Lady Cobbold (nee Bulwer-Lytton) and were given to her by her mother on the occasion of her 15th birthday. The inscription inside each volume reads 'August 31st 1920, Hermione Lytton, from Mother'. Both volumes have some darkening to the edges of the endpapers. Both have a frontis. portrait with tissue guard. The Matthew Arnold volume has a very pale stain to the bottom edge of the front pastedown, endpaper and following free page. Other occasional light marks to pages but overall in very good, clean condition. Bindings firm. Matthew Arnold: pp. xxvii, 460. Wordsworth: pp. xxxii, 986. 19.5cm.
