Part I: Libri Cancellarii et Procuratorum; Part II: Libri Cancellarii et Procuratorum, Accedunt Acta Curiae Cancellarii et Memoranda ex Registris Nonnulla. Quarter cloth - brown cloth spines with black paper sides. Boards are significantly rubbed at the edges and corners in particular, though surfaces also rubbed. Spine ends are bumped with some fraying to the cloth at the spine ends. Inscriptions on the front endpapers. Binding is sound and hinges are good. There are quite a lot of passages marked throughout the text with a green chalk pencil - this is three vertical lines of green pencil running through all the marked passages; there are a lot of them. Some pages are uncut at the top edge. A good working or reference set only. pp. cl, 366; [4], 367-859. 1904. Publisher's original red cloth, gilt decoration. Light rubs to the board edges and a slightly dulled spine. A small pocket-sized volume. A chronology of 6 pages, followed by 20 tissue-guarded photogravure plates. 14.5cm. There is a very pale stain to the bottom margin of most of the plates. Plates free from foxing though there is foxing present to prelims. A good copy of one of the more scarce titles in this little series. 304670

Pictorial-paper-covered boards. Flexible boards. Date of publication not stated, but is 1916. Stapled binding - 2 staples in the spine. The staples have rusted, with corresponding rust marks around the outsides of the staples and the centre pages are slightly loosening. Some foxing and occasional thumbing marks to the pages. Some pages and illustrations have a c. half centimeter pale water-type mark to the bottom edge. The colour illustrations are otherwise in nice clean condition. A gift inscription inside the front cover reads, 'Joyce, with best love from Daddy, Xmas 1917'. No other writing inside. The boards are generally rubbed and creased. Overall, a fairly good example of this charming and scarce Ernest Aris title. 302793

These separate volumes are uniformly bound in a handsome red morocco with red cloth boards, six gilt ruled spine compartments, five raised bands. Top edges are gilt. Minor rubs. An attractive and sturdy pair. The pair belonged to Hermione Lady Cobbold (nee Bulwer-Lytton) and were given to her by her mother on the occasion of her 15th birthday. The inscription inside each volume reads 'August 31st 1920, Hermione Lytton, from Mother'. Both volumes have some darkening to the edges of the endpapers. Both have a frontis. portrait with tissue guard. The Matthew Arnold volume has a very pale stain to the bottom edge of the front pastedown, endpaper and following free page. Other occasional light marks to pages but overall in very good, clean condition. Bindings firm. Matthew Arnold: pp. xxvii, 460. Wordsworth: pp. xxxii, 986. 19.5cm.
