Volume one has a small piece missing from the bottom corner of the title page. The dust jackets both have some light wear to the edges. 5 VOLUMES OF 6 - this set lacks Volume VI which is the Index volume. Original brown cloth with gilt lettered spines. Some rubs to the board edges, some fraying to the cloth at the spine ends, some marks to the boards. Some inner hinges are lightly cracked; bindings sound. Volume III has a small amount of mottled fading from old damp exposure to the bottom edge of the rear board. Sporadic foxing through all volumes and outer closed textblock edges. Some volumes have pencilled names and dates on the f.e.p. and/or front pastedown. VOLUME I pp. lxiii, 425; VOLUME II pp. xxvii, 264; VOLUME III pp. xvi, 351; VOLUME IV xii, 420; VOLUME V pp. xvi, 364 + numerous plates. Despite flaws this is a good, sound working set.
